I have said it before, I don’t do “new year resolutions” there will not be “new year new me”.
I was already made new when I accepted Jesus and got baptized.
I have been redeemed, and He has reshaped the unique traits that I have.
New year resolutions don’t last. They are hyped, and like most things that receive hype and give us a “high”, it eventually wears off.
The motivation is gone by February when people start thinking about chocolate hearts (don’t waste your money-buy on the 15th with everything is at least half off)
The want and willingness drain from our bodies as we sip on the big chain coffee we gave up or drink down the soda we swore off
Because we were only following the centuries-long tradition.
Someone put you on the spot and made you feel guilty.
The new year rolls in, but nothing about life has changed- it’s a new day like all the days before.
Our habits-same
Our weaknesses- same
Our desires-same
We didn’t actually do anything to ensure success
The roots of the negative habits still dig deep.
So, my suggestion if you want to see real change,
If you want to feel better and have success,
Identify the root cause of the habits you created or the negative lifestyle choices you continue to overlook because change is hard.
What are the triggers- things that make you eat that cookie, drink the alcohol or keep you stuck in bed without a desire for movement.
Is it depression? Unhealthy coping skills taught in childhood? Do you look at yourself in the mirror and continue to let your pride lie to you as if you are fine how you are? You’re the victim and everyone else is the problem?
You may have heard it takes 21 days to form a habit, 30 days to break one.
Don’t get stuck on numbers or comparison.
Each of us is created differently and things will not happen for you like they may for someone else.
2025 did one thing for me for certain, and that’s growth. I look for growth in every season of life. If we aren’t getting out of our comfort zone and growing, we aren’t going to succeed at most things. We end up stagnant.
I have been told I’m wrong. I have been told there are things I needed to change. I have been told I can be offensive.
It is very uncomfortable, sometimes to the point of nauseating, but we are better for it.
Our qualities are ours for a reason, but we don’t always use them correctly or in the right time.
2025 had a lot of hard moments, a lot of tears, a lot of unanswered questions and prayers, but it also brought strength, wisdom, knowledge and friendships.
My goal, my life changing plans for 2026, will be to reflect on 2025- all 365 days and see what I need to do better, different or continue doing.
Where did I fall short?
Where did I refuse growth?
What is still uncomfortable?
How can I be most useful to the Kingdom of God?
How can I glorify God and honor Him with my choices?
Give yourself grace.
Give yourself love.
Breathe.
And most importantly, don’t get stuck in the secular loophole no one can win.
